The Southern Transport Development Project represents a landmark infrastructure development initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity in Sri Lanka. This segment of the project focuses on completing critical civil structure works and road construction along the stretch from Kurundugtekinn (62.6 km) to Pinnaduwa (95.3 km).

The project, completed in 2011, was commissioned by the Road Development Authority and undertaken in collaboration with the main contractor, Kumagai Gumi Co. Ltd.
